Presentation on the Adoption of K-12 World Languages, Health, and Physical Education Instructional Materials

Executive Summary
The Director Secondary Programs, on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby requests the Board to review the presentation on the adoption of instructional materials for World Languages, Health Education, and Physical Education in accordance with the Florida Department of Education instructional materials adoption cycle.
A review team consisting of instructional personnel, district support staff, and school-based representatives collaborated in the evaluation and selection of the instructional materials. Florida Statute 1006.28 requires school districts to select and provide instructional materials aligned to Florida's academic standards and required instructional content for all students.
The recommended adoption includes instructional materials for:
Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Spanish 3, and Spanish 4 for use in high schools;
French 1 and French 2 for use in high schools;
Middle School Health Education for grades 6-8 that support Florida's required health instruction;
High School Health Opportunities through Physical Education (HOPE) materials that support the required health instruction and the state graduation requirement of one credit in physical education with health integration; and
High School Personal Fitness instructional materials that support state standards and required health instruction.
The adopted materials are aligned to applicable Florida standards and required instructional content as established by the Florida Department of Education. Adoption of these materials will allow the District to establish an approved list of instructional resources for future procurement and implementation.
