Presentation of the Government Finance Officers Association's (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Award
body
Executive Summary
The Executive Director of Business Services, on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby requests the Board to recognize the Finance and Budget Department for their 20th consecutive year of receiving the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Award for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2021. The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
This is the 20th consecutive year Hernando County School District and our Finance Department have received this award. We are one of only 12 districts in the state of Florida who have received this award for at least 20 years. School Boards are not required to complete an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, and many don't because the criteria and amount of work necessary to complete the ACFR is tremendous, as noted by the attached 48-page checklist.
We are very proud of Joyce and Kendra, together they have completed the ACFR for the past 10 years, and their staff, for their dedication to this process and for attaining this award.
