title

Approve the job description updates for the Exceptional Student Education Department.

body

Executive Summary

The Supervisor of Exceptional Student Education, on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby requests the Board approve the Speech Language Assistant and Speech Language Technician job descriptions.  The changes made to these job descriptions will align the Speech Language Assistant and Speech Language Technician positions to state and national job descriptions. Department of Health and Department of Education recognize speech language assistants as those with a bachelor’s degree and all required credentials such as licensing exams, coursework, and practicums. Offering positions that align to their credentials also helps when recruiting.

Also included for approval, Manager of SEDNET (The Multiagency Network for Students with Emotional/Behavioral Disabilities) job description updates include removing qualifying criteria that restricts the applicant field and does not impact job performance and level of student support.

Financial Impact

See attached budget sheet.

If expenditure is not currently budgeted, this will serve as the budget amendment when Board approved. If the agenda item includes the purchase of goods or services, the funds requested are an anticipated amount and may fluctuate depending on such factors as current market conditions, product availability, additional funding sources, and the needs of the District.  Should the actual cost exceed the anticipated amount, the Board approves the additional cost, after review by the superintendent, but not in excess of the funds available in the site’s approved annual budget.
