Executive Summary
The Director of Technology and Information Services, on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby requests the Board reject all bids in response to request for bid # 23-206-24: Palo Alto Network Web Filtering Firewall Equipment and Services. Since the time of requesting bids for this product and its associated software and support, our state Internet provider Harris L3 has created a new program where they will include the required Palo Alto firewall appliance and associated software, services and support as part of our Internet service. The monthly cost from Harris L3 is $1,724.07 per month, for a total yearly cost of $20,688.84.
To contrast, the responding bids in response to request for bid # 23-206-24: Palo Alto Network Web Filtering Firewall Equipment and Services would require us to purchase the Firewall appliance at a cost of approximately $188,000.00 (which we have submitted to E-Rate so our actual cost is approximately $36,000.00) up front with a recurring cost for software, services and support of $6,600.00 per month for a yearly approximate cost of $79,000.00.
Other benefits, beyond the obvious financial advantages, of using the equipment provided by Harris L3 is the flexibility to upgrade or change devices to scale appropriately for changes in user count and to update to the latest model at a controlled and steeply discounted cost when needed.
