Executive Summary
The Supervisor of Literacy, Intervention and Elementary Academic Programs, on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby requests the Board to approve the purchase of instructional materials for High School Intensive Reading grades 9-10 from Lexia Learning Systems. The Hernando County School District will receive access to data and reporting for progress monitoring in order for teachers to differentiate their instruction based on student need. The request is pursuant to F.S. 1008.22 requiring successful performance on statewide assessment, as well as HB 7039, which states that materials must be grounded in the Science of Reading. The desired outcome will be to increase student literacy proficiency, ultimately increasing Hernando County graduation rates. This is a current expenditure of $69,180.00 and they anticipate the possibility of spending up to $80,000.00 due to additional possible purchases needed. Lexia Learning Systems is the supplier and publisher of this proprietary and copyrighted material.
