Executive Summary

The Director of Exceptional Student Education, on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby requests the Board approve out-of-state travel for Anna Jensen to attend the 2025 CASE Conference in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on November 5-7, 2025.  The CASE Conference is the premier special education leadership event of the year. CASE, The Council of Administrators of Special Education, the largest division of the Council for Exceptional Children, is an international nonprofit professional organization providing leadership, advocacy, and professional development to more than 6,000 administrators responsible for the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

This conference represents a unique opportunity to unite, collaborate, and inspire one another in shared endeavors to lead and innovate in special education.  The conference includes Key Speakers that will focus on current issues from legal updates and instructional best practices to mental health support, for students with disabilities that our schools and educators are facing involving Special Education.

By attending, the Director will engage with national and international experts and return with high-quality professional learning that is relevant and important to the field of special education, designed to provide world-class learning and networking to strengthen and grow the field of special education.

There is no Financial Impact to the Board as all expenses will be covered by the Florida Division of CASE, where Anna Jensen holds the office of President-Elect.

Financial Impact

No financial impact.

If expenditure is not currently budgeted, this will serve as the budget amendment when Board approved. If the agenda item includes the purchase of goods or services, the funds requested are an anticipated amount and may fluctuate depending on such factors as current market conditions, product availability, additional funding sources, and the needs of the District.  Should the actual cost exceed the anticipated amount, the Board approves the additional cost, after review by the superintendent, but not in excess of the funds available in the site’s approved annual budget.
