Executive Summary
The Director of Exceptional Student Education, on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby requests the Board approve Hernando County's Exceptional Student Education Policies and Procedures (P&Ps) for the 2023-2024 through 2025-2026 school years.
The Florida Department of Education (DOE) Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services requires school districts to outline the programs and procedures for Exceptional Student Education (ESE) services. The attached Hernando County Exceptional Student Education Policies and Procedures (P&Ps) describes and serves as a basis for the general education intervention procedures, referral, identification, evaluation, eligibility determination, and placement of students in special programs and is a component needed for the district's application for supplemental student funds under the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
The Hernando County Exceptional Student Education Policies and Procedures (P&Ps) is effective for 2023-2024 through 2025-2026 school years. The two (2) attachments reflect the changes that have been made on the previous 2020-2021 through 2022-2023 P&Ps (with strike-out) and the new 2023-2024 through 2025-2026 P&Ps (highlighted).

If expenditure is not currently budgeted, this will serve as the budget amendment when Board approved. If the agenda item includes the purchase of goods or services, the funds requested are an anticipated amount and may fluctuate depending on such factors as current market conditions, product availability, additional funding sources, and the needs of the District. Should the actual cost exceed the anticipated amount, the Board approves the additional cost, after review by the superintendent, but not in excess of the funds available in the site’s approved annual budget.
