Executive Summary
The Supervisor of Instructional Technology, on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby requests the Board to recognize the HCSD 2025-2026 Artificial Intelligence (AI) Task Force.
The Hernando County School District’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Task Force was convened to study, discuss, and provide guidance on the responsible and instructional use of artificial intelligence within district schools and operations. Comprised of representatives from instructional staff, instructional technology, school leadership, and other district stakeholders, the task force engaged in extensive collaboration to examine emerging AI tools, ethical considerations, academic integrity implications, and alignment with existing district policy.
Through this work, the AI Task Force developed a comprehensive AI Guidance Framework designed to serve as a companion to School Board Policy 7540.08 - Artificial Intelligence. The framework translates board policy into practical guidance for classrooms and staff, emphasizing learning-first use, professional judgment, student safety, ethical responsibility, and developmental appropriateness across grade levels. The task force’s approach intentionally balanced innovation with integrity, ensuring that instructional opportunities involving AI are supported by clear expectations and safeguards.
This agenda item provides an opportunity for the School Board to formally recognize and thank the members of the AI Task Force for their time, expertise, and collaborative efforts. Their work represents a significant contribution to the district’s proactive and thoughtful approach to emerging technologies and supports the district’s commitment to responsible innovation in teaching and learning.

See attached budget sheet.
If expenditure is not currently budgeted, this will serve as the budget amendment when Board approved. If the agenda item includes the purchase of goods or services, the funds requested are an anticipated amount and may fluctuate depending on such factors as current market conditions, product availability, additional funding sources, and the needs of the District. Should the actual cost exceed the anticipated amount, the Board approves the additional cost, after review by the superintendent, but not in excess of the funds available in the site’s approved annual budget.
