Executive Summary

The Director of Research and Accountability, Director of Elementary Programs, Director of Secondary Programs, Director of Federal Programs and Director of Technology and Information Services, on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby requests the Board to approve the purchase of goods and services from Curriculum Associates. This program includes:

A diagnostic for reading and math for all students in Grades K-8 to determine instructional support needed (Rule 6A-6.053(8)(b)4, F.A.C.)

Meets the requirement of a dyslexia screener (s.1008.25(9) F.S.)

Provides an alternate assessment for third grade promotion (s. 1008.25.(7)(b)(3), F.S.)

Informs schools of students that require additional intervention (Rule 6A-6.053(5), F.A.C.)

The diagnostic generates district, school, class, and student data that teachers can use for differentiated instruction. An additional component is the instructional path that provides interactive lessons targeted to student’s individual needs. Curriculum Associates is the core curriculum for intensive reading and math for and intervention time, all of which are on the current Florida Department of Education approved Comprehensive Evidence-based Reading Plan. Finally, Curriculum Associates also provides coaching to schools to support teachers with instruction and planning. Curriculum Associates is the supplier and publisher of this proprietary and copyrighted material.

The total amount is not to exceed $1,000,000.00. Funding beyond the quote is being requested to support the possibility of additional grant funding for schools, including charter schools and private schools, as well as our schools.

Financial Impact

See attached budget sheet.

If expenditure is not currently budgeted, this will serve as the budget amendment when Board approved. If the agenda item includes the purchase of goods or services, the funds requested are an anticipated amount and may fluctuate depending on such factors as current market conditions, product availability, additional funding sources, and the needs of the District.  Should the actual cost exceed the anticipated amount, the Board approves the additional cost, after review by the superintendent, but not in excess of the funds available in the site’s approved annual budget.
