Executive Summary

The Director of Research and Accountability, on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby requests the Board to approve the purchase of the eduCLIMBER platform and Accelerated Reader from Renaissance. eduClimber is an interactive student data system that integrates all data points into one platform in order to evaluate and monitor data at the student, school, and district level. This platform also streamlines MTSS paperwork for teachers by automating time intensive processes.

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a digital program that helps teachers and students monitor, manage, and incentivize a student’s independent reading practice. The program is designed to help improve reading skills through frequent feedback and reading practice. Schools may use their Title I or internal funds to purchase this program if desired.

This is a current expenditure of $145,200.00 for the annual renewal of eduCLIMBER and they anticipate the possibility of spending up to $166,584.00 due to additional costs of Accelerated Reader for schools and Professional Learning.

The original contract was Board approved at the February 28, 2023 Board meeting. Renaissance Learning, Inc. is the supplier and publisher of this proprietary and copyrighted material.

Financial Impact

See attached budget sheet.

If expenditure is not currently budgeted, this will serve as the budget amendment when Board approved. If the agenda item includes the purchase of goods or services, the funds requested are an anticipated amount and may fluctuate depending on such factors as current market conditions, product availability, additional funding sources, and the needs of the District.  Should the actual cost exceed the anticipated amount, the Board approves the additional cost, after review by the superintendent, but not in excess of the funds available in the site’s approved annual budget.
