Executive Summary

The Director of Secondary Programs, on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby requests the Board to approve the purchase of Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP) Curriculum from the College Board. Pre-AP courses deliver grade-level appropriate instruction through focused course frameworks, instructional resources, learning checkpoints and collaborative educator workshops. They are designed to support all students across varying levels of abilities through focus. They are not honors or advanced course but does carry an honors course GPA weight. The Program grants educators and their students the space and time for deep engagement with content.

Five of our middle schools (DSPMS, PMS, CK8, EK8 and WWK8), and three of our high schools (HHS, SHS and WWHS) will be offering Pre-AP Algebra I, Pre-AP English, and Pre-AP World History and Geography. The structure of the courses will give students exposure to what an AP course looks like. This will allow students to be better prepared to take advanced coursework in high school.

Financial Impact

See attached budget sheet.

If expenditure is not currently budgeted, this will serve as the budget amendment when Board approved. If the agenda item includes the purchase of goods or services, the funds requested are an anticipated amount and may fluctuate depending on such factors as current market conditions, product availability, additional funding sources, and the needs of the District.  Should the actual cost exceed the anticipated amount, the Board approves the additional cost, after review by the superintendent, but not in excess of the funds available in the site’s approved annual budget.
