Executive Summary
The Director of Exceptional Student Education, on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools, hereby requests the Board approve Hernando County’s Exceptional Student Education Policies and Procedures (SP&P’s) for the 2020-21 through 2022-2023 school years.
The Florida Department of Education (DOE) Bureau of Exceptional Education Student Education requires school districts to outline the programs and procedures for Exceptional Student Education (ESE) services. The attached Hernando County Exceptional Student Education Policies and Procedures (SP&Ps) describes and serves as a basis for the general education intervention procedures, referral, identification, evaluation, eligibility determination, and placement of students in special programs and is a component needed for the district's
application for supplemental student funds under the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
The Hernando County Exceptional Student Education Policies and Procedures (SP&Ps) is effective for 2020-2021 through 2022-2023 school years. The two (2) attachments reflect the changes that have been made on the previous 2019-2020 through 2021-22 SP&Ps (with strike-out) and the new 2020-2021 through 2022-2023 SP&Ps (highlighted).
